Dare, Gerlemann claim Christmas Clash titles

That is what Zach Bollmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl wrestlers were looking for during the annual Christmas Clash Lady Mustang Wrestling Tournament at Eldon High School over the weekend.

Five orange and black wrestlers got their early presents in the form of a medal for finishing at least sixth in their respective weight classes.

Placing second the previous weekend in Rolla, sophomore Bailee Dare looked to improve on that showing with a tournament title in Eldon at 170 pounds.

Needing a total of just 2:06 of mat time to win all three of her pool matches by fall, Dare began bracket action in the quarterfinals against Holden’s Jessica Sylvester.

Pinning her in :11, Dare advanced to the semifinals and a showdown with a fellow orange-and-black grappler in Waynesville’s Mckenzie Moffet.

Pinning the Lady Tiger grappler in 1:18, the Dutchgirl sophomore moved on to the championship match against Southern Boone Lady Eagle Lilly Seward.

Midway through the second period, Dare secured her second tournament championship with a win by fall in 3:23.

Dare was not the only Dutchgirl to leave Eldon with a first-place medal.

Senior Josie Gerlemann also pinned her way into bracket wrestling with a pair of wins by fall in 2:28.

Matched up against Liberty’s (Wentzville) Arely Perez in the quarterfinals, Gerlemann pinned the Eagle grappler 1:08.

Advancing to the semifinals, Gerlemann looked to play the role of dragon slayer against Ste. Genevieve’s Hailey Wheeler.

Pinning her in 3:32, another Eagle awaited Gerlemann in the championship match in Southern Boone’s Addy Pasley.

Midway through the second period, Gerlemann became Owensville’s second individual champion at Eldon with a win by fall in 3:11.

Sophomore Elizabeth Adams nearly made it three individual titles for the Dutchgirls.

Competing at 120 pounds, Adams scored wins by fall during pool wrestling over Warsaw’s Alysia Yoder (1:59), Monett’s Heidi Hurtado (1:13) and Monett’s Londi Torres-Ramos (2:23).

Quarterfinal action from Eldon saw Adams matched up against William Chrisman’s Maya Saldivar.

Winning a 7-4 decision over her Bear opponent, Adams advanced to the semifianls at 120 pounds against Holden’s Adasyn Yoder.

Taking an 8-4 decision over her Eagle foe, another Owensville-Southern Boone championship match ensued with Adams matched up against Callie Bergthold.

Pinned in 3:17, Adams settled for a silver second-place medals at 120 pounds from Lady Mustang country.

At 105 pounds, Jenna Vandegriffe reached the third-place match before being pinned in 1:24 by Monett’s Mary Jastal settling for a fourth-place medal.

Vandegriffe earned wins by fall during the tournament over Battle’s Natalie Shea (1:55), Mexico’s Alizabeth Welch (:44) and Warrensburg’s Hailey Welch (:29).

Losing her first three matches in pool wrestling, Carly Brown battled back to claim sixth place at 125 pounds in spite of being pinned by Branson’s Cameryn Warner in 2:29 during the fifth-place match.

Brown earned wins by fall over Smith-Cotton’s Katherine Madrid (1:30) and Mexico’s Emileigh Woods (:47) in addition to a win by medical forfeit over William Chrisman’s Isabelle Dufva.

McKenzy Echols just missed out on the top six and a medal at 140 pounds.

During pool wrestling, Echols scored wins by fall over Waynesville’s Camile Marshall (1:44), Buffalo’s Gabriella Howard (1:02) and Battle’s Emmett Bryan (2:00).

Echols pinned Bryan again in 5:10 during the seventh-place match at 140 pounds.

Kelby Schoenfeld won a pair of matches by fall at 190 pounds against Benton’s Joslynne Gromowski in 1:09 and Mexico’s Taylor Parker in 1:42.

Settling for eighth place, Schoenfeld was pinned by Battle’s Ma’Kena Sims in 4:58.

Making her season debut at 235 pounds, Madison Lewis earned three byes throughout the tournament before dropping the 11th-place match by fall in 1:08 to Mexico’s Alexus Johns.

Anna Carlin rounded out the Dutchgirl wrestling line up in Eldon placing 12th at 155 pounds.

Earning a win by medical forfeit over Waynesville’s Maya Duncan, Carlin lost the 11th-place match by fall to Rolla’s Shea Loughridge in 3:50.
