David Roth

David J. Roth Sr., 82, Jackson, formerly of Cape Girardeau and Belleville, Ill., passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at his residence.

He was born March 7, 1938, to August and Anna (Dissen) Roth, in Illmo.

He was united in marriage to Carol Bennett, Dec. 21, 1960, at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.

David was a graduate of Illmo-Fornfelt High School in Scott City, received a chemistry degree from Southeast Missouri College (now Southeast Missouri University) and received his Master of Arts Degree in 1963 at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. He was an active member and held various offices at Trinity Lutheran Church and later at Hanover Lutheran Church, both in Cape Girardeau.

David spent his last years enjoying family and outdoor life. His favorite pastime was fishing in the family pond, bringing in fish for supper. He also enjoyed helping with the sausage suppers at Hanover Lutheran.

He is survived by wife, Carol; children, Rev. David Jr. of Owensville, Deaconess Dr. Deborah Rockrohr and husband Rev. Dr Carl of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio, and Daniel and wife Tammy of Independence, Kan.; grandchildren, USN Chaplain Paul Rockrohr and wife Stacy, USMC Capt. James Rockrohr and wife Megan, Deaconess Rebecca Johnson and husband Rev. Scott, Theodore Rockrohr, Kenneth Roth and Karma Roth; sister, Mabel Schwark; sister-in-law, Arlene Roth; brother-in-law, Carlton Nebel; eight great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 18, at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau with Rev. Steven Theiss officiating. Interment was in Eisleben Lutheran Cemetery in Scott City. Memorial contributions suggested to Saxony Lutheran High School, Jackson, or Hanover Lutheran Student Endowment Fund, Cape Girardeau.
