Dean Brueseke

Dean H. Brueseke, 64, Sullivan, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at Missouri Baptist Hospital.
He was born June 28, 1955, in St. Louis, the son of Hadley Louis and Arvetta J. (Cain) Brueseke.
He attended Spring Bluff School through 8th grade, and then attended and graduated from Sullivan High School, class of 1973. At age 16, Dean went to work at Kroger and remained employed with them for 17 years. During his last semester of high school, Dean attended East Central College and earned an associate’s degree in 1974. While continuing to work at Kroger, he also began preparing taxes. This began his 45-year career in the tax business. Dean was involved in the Sullivan business community in many different areas, including opening the Radio Shack in 1975 with his long-time friends, Mike McCulloch and Mark McFarland, and serving as the president of South Community Credit Union. In 2018, Dean and Robert Scott went into business together preparing taxes.
Dean was united in marriage to Roxana Vaughn, May 22, 2010, in Owensville, and they enjoyed 10 wonderful years together. They connected through their mutual love of God, their grandkids and sports. They had recently moved into their dream retirement home in Owensville.
Dean was a sports fanatic. He loved the St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou football. Dean also loved Las Vegas, which is where he attended his last Blues game Jan. 4, 2020. He had been a Blues season ticket hold for 23 years. In his earlier years, Dean bowled and played on a men’s fast pitch softball league.
Dean loved watching his son, Michael, play basketball, baseball and football, as well as coaching him for many years. He never missed a sporting event that Michael was involved in. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing with them and watching them excel in whatever they chose to do. Dean will be missed by his family, work family, church family and many friends.
Dean is survived by his wife, Roxana “Rocky” Brueseke of Owensville; one son, Michael Brueseke and wife Megan of Suffolk, Va.; one stepdaughter, Erin Sassmann and husband Cody of Owensville; seven grandchildren: Boden, Claire, Titus, Soren, Griffin, Tucker and Brett; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hadley and Arvetta Brueseke.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 5, at First Assembly of God Church in Sullivan with interment following in Dutch Hill Cemetery in Sullivan.
