With November now in the books, the month of December means plenty of time in area gyms on wrestling mats or the basketball court.

Last night (Tuesday) Owensville Middle School Dutchmen basketball teams coached by Taylor Payne and Shane Hunt began their seasons on the road at Steelville Middle School against the Cardinals in central Crawford County.

Players making up Hunt’s seventh-grade Dutchmen squad include Brenner Thompson, Kylen Menz, Keigan Glaser, Westin Kramme, Bryce Kramme, Chase Crosby, Brock Heidbrink, Wyatt Lewis, Koen Brooks, Brady Watson and Brody Slinkard.

Playing in their final season of middle school as eighth-graders coached by Payne include Henry Womack, Caden Ely, Ricky Marquez, Corbyn Hamann, Drew Chapman, Henry Wood, Logan Valley, Chris Allen, Bryce Horstmann, Adam Wilson, Chase Weirich and Alex Trotter.

Throughout December and January, all home games for OMS Dutchmen basketball will be played at the Owensville Elementary School (OES) gym.

Their first chance to play in front of their home fans will be on Monday, Dec. 6 against Washington’s Blue Jays with seventh-grade action kicking off the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m., with the eighth-grade contest to follow.

Dustin Howard’s Owensville High School Dutchmen and Dutchgirl wrestlers will finally be able to wrestle against someone other than themselves tomorrow (Thursday) when Washington’s Blue Jays and Rolla Bulldogs visit OHS for a tri-meet beginning at 5 p.m., involving the junior varsity boys, varsity boys and varsity girls wrestlers.

Thursday’s meet will also mark the first matches for the Dutchgirl wrestling octet of Liz Adams, McKenzy Echols, Bailee Dare, McKenna Edwards, Jersey Reynolds, Josie Gerlemann, Kelby Schoenfeld and Hannah Berkaw.

They will be coached Zach Bollman.

Casey Fisher’s OMS wrestling team of Cael Walker, Steven Buddemeyer, Kyle Blankenship, Garrett Hunter, Brendan Kramme, Zach Barch, Micah Duncan and Gauge Workman will host their lone home meet of the season on Thursday, Dec. 16 facing Fatima and Pacific.
