Declaration of Candidacy begins December 11

People interested in being listed as a candidate in the April 2, Municipal Election can file their intentions as early as Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 8 a.m.

City Clerk Jane Hungler says four municipal seats will be on the April ballot for the City of Gerald.

Cary Parker’s two-year term as mayor is coming to a close. Parker has not indicated if he will seek reelection.

Voters will choose candidates for two seats in Ward 1. The seat currently occupied by Steve Grgurich will be open for another two-year term. The second seat, vacated by Scott Long, will have a permanent one-year replacement decided by the voters. Ruth Haase was recently appointed to fill that spot until the election.

In Ward 2, another two-year seat will be up for grabs. When no one filed as a candidate for the one-year spot last year, Parker appointed Kent Richardson to serve out the term.

Ward 1 Alderman Ed Adams is the only current alderman on the four-person board whose seat will not be on the ballot. He was elected to a two-year term last April.

Candidates will appear on the ballot in the order in which they have filed.

The closing date for the filing period is Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m.

The declaration of candidacy should be filed with the City Clerk at City Hall, 106 E. Fitzgerald, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Municipal Elections and declarations of candidacy are governed by Section 115 of the Missouri State Statutes.
