Fresh off their second consecutive district title Saturday after a 49-35 victory at California in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 4, District 9 Girls Basketball Tournament championship game, John VanLeer’s looked to keep their season going Tuesday night hosting Strafford’s Lady Indians in one of eight MSHSAA Class 4 Sectional girls basketball games.
Trailing most of the second half, Owensville took a brief 31-29 lead on a pair of Brynn Wright free throws with 4:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Strafford scored the next five points before Camryn Caldwell delivered the shot heard ‘round Owensville on a 3-pointer at the buzzer sending the game into overtime and Owensville High School (OHS) into a frenzy.
Down 37-36 with 18.5 left in overtime after a Brooklyn Adney free throw by Straffod, Ali Daniels converted an old-fashioned 3-point play giving the Dutchgirls a 39-37 lead with 13.6 remaining.
Seconds later, Wright stole the ball before converting a lay up to seal the deal on Owensville’s 41-37 overtime victory over Class 4, 7th ranked Strafford.
Owensville will now host Logan-Rogersville’s Lady Wildcats Saturday at 5 p.m., at OHS. Logan-Rogersville defeated Aurora 60-44 in another Class 4 Sectional contest.
A complete recap of sectional and quarterfinal girls basketball action will be in next week’s Gasconade County Republican.
