Eddie Lee Powers Jr., 51, of Robertsville has been charged with fourth degree assault and misdemeanor stealing for allegedly stealing food meant for a food drive.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Pelton reports that on Nov. 13, his department was notified that a man was stealing donations meant for the Boy Scouts food drive for the last four to five years in the Lonedell area.

On the morning of Nov. 17, the scoutmaster was collecting donations when he encountered the suspected food thief. The man left in his vehicle almost striking the scoutmaster.

A description of the vehicle was given to the sheriff’s office and passed along to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The vehicle was located in the 1400 block of Wardfield Road with Powers near the vehicle.

Powers was detained and during the investigation deputies found the stolen food items and two old Scoutmaster shirts inside the residence.

The food items were photographed and turned over to the scouts for their intended purpose of donation to the local food pantry in Lonedell.

A $1,000 cash or surety bond was set for Powers.
