Eight games in nine days.

That is what greeted Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team to close out the month of September.

That stretch began on Tuesday, Sept. 20 with a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) home showdown with St. James’ Lady Tigers.

Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Owensville was able to plate four runs on three errors, two hits and a walk helping them to a 5-3 hard-fought 5-3 victory.

Down 2-0 after one inning, the Dutchgirls were able to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Emma Daniels reached on an error before eventually scoring when Cailin Floyd reached on another error slicing the St. James lead in half to 2-1 after four innings.

St. James tacked on another tally mark in the top of the sixth inning leaving the Dutchgirls trailing 3-1 entering the bottom half of the frame.

Kate Blankenship started the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff single before April Jahnsen delivered another single moving Blankenship to second base.

Floyd then reached base on an error to load the bases for Clara Julius.

Drawing a bases-loaded walk, Julius allowed Blankenship to score cutting the Dutchgirl deficit to 3-2.

Caidence Goodman also reached on an error before eventually scoring later in the inning.

Julius also scored helping Owensville eventually hold on for a 5-3 victory.

Bailee Dare and Anya Binkhoelter each drew a team-high two walks for the Dutchgirls against St. James.

Floyd earned the complete-game win pitching all seven innings allowing three runs (two unearned) on one hit and four walks to go with 10 strikeouts.

Two days later on Thursday, Sept. 22, the Dutchgirls broke out of their offensive slump at St. Clair with 11 hits leading to a 20-7 victory in five innings over the host Lady Bulldogs.

Nearly every Dutchgirl batter reached base against the Lady Bulldogs.

Dare had a team-high three hits with five runs scored and two runs batted in (RBI).

Emma Daniels added two hits, three runs scored and four RBIs while Blankenship added three RBIs, three runs scored and a hit.

Jahnsen chipped in two hits, two runs scored, two RBIs and two walks.

Floyd had a hit and a RBI while Danika Hinson added a walk and a run scored.

Grace Abell drew a walk and scored a run while Goodman scored three runs, drew a pair of walk and delivered a hit.

Ali Daniels added a hit, a RBI and three runs scored.

Floyd earned the win pitching all five innings allowing seven runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

In the Eugene Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 24, Owensville took losses to Southern Boone (16-1) and Eugene (7-2) before ending the day with an 18-5 victory over Waynesville in an all orange-and-black showdown.

Blankenship led the Dutchgirls with three hits, a run scored and five RBIs.

Closing September with three home games last week, Owensville fell to Fatima (14-0), Pacific (5-3) and Jefferson City (19-0).

On senior night last Tuesday against Pacific, Floyd  had four hits and a run batted in while Jahnsen as the lone senior contributed a RBI ground out scoring Emma Daniels in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Owensville will close the regular season tomorrow (Thursday) on the at Montgomery County against the Lady Wildcats.
