SULLIVAN — An uphill climb.

That is what awaited Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team in the opening round of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 5 Tournament at Sullivan High School against the host Lady Eagles.

Limited to three hits over five innings, the Dutchgirls saw their season end at 5-22 following a 13-0 loss in five innings.

Bailee Dare led the game off with a walk only to be left stranded on the base paths.

After Sullivan scored four runs in the bottom of the first, Owensville got singles from senior April Jahnsen and freshman Clara Julius only to see them left stranded after two strikeouts ended the inning.

Grace Abell was Owensville’s last base runner of the season on a one-out single in the top of the fifth inning.

Sullivan fell in the semifinals 9-2 to Blair Oaks before the Lady Falcons lost to Fatima 2-1 in the district title game.
