Districts set for OHS

With the release of district assignments for girl’s wrestling Friday morning, Owensville High School coaches for Dutchmen basketball, Dutchgirl basketball, Dutchmen wrestling and Dutchgirl wrestling now know who they will be competing against and where their respective district tournaments will take place.

Dustin Howard’s Dutchgirl wrestlers will get to experience their district tournament first on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4 at North Point High School in Wentzville.

With only one class of girls wrestling in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA), the Dutchgirls were assigned to District 2.

Teams that could have wrestlers competing against Owensville’s eight Dutchgirl wrestlers include Battle (Columbia), Blair Oaks, Boonville, Brookfield, California, Capital City, Centralia, Cole Camp, Eldon, Fatima, Francis Howell, Francis Howell Central, Francis Howell North, Fort Zumwalt East, Fort Zumwalt North, Fort Zumwalt South, Fort Zumwalt West, Fulton, Hannibal, Hickman (Columbia), Holt (Wentzville), Jefferson City, Kirksville, Liberty (Wentzville), Lutheran St. Charles, Macon, Marceline, Marshall, Mexico, Moberly, North Point, Orchard Farm, Osage, Palmyra, Rock Bridge (Columbia), Smith-Cotton (Sedalia), South Callaway, Southern Boone, St. Charles, St. Charles West, St. Francis Borgia, Timberland (Wentzville), Tipton, Troy-Buchanan, Versailles, Warrenton, Washington, Winfield and Wright City.

Howard’s Dutchmen wrestlers will return to Sullivan High School the weekend of Feb. 10-11 for the MSHSAA Class 2, District 1 Tournament.

Potential district foes for Owensville could come from Affton, Central (Park Hills), Dexter, Herculaneum, Kennett, MICDS, Normandy Collaborative, Potosi, St. Clair, St. James, St. Mary’s (St. Louis), Ste. Genevieve, Sullivan and University City.

Placed in a tough district last year, Cullen VanLeer’s Dutchmen basketball team got moved from Class 4, District 9 to Class 4, District 3.

Blair Oaks and Fatima stayed in district nine while a number of familiar teams return to possibly face the Dutchmen.

Hosted also by Sullivan High School, the MSHSAA Class 4, District 3 tournament field in boys basketball will consist of Cuba, Salem, St. Clair, St. James, Sullivan and Owensville.

Sullivan dropped back to Class 4 after spending last winter in Class 5, District 4.

Thus far, VanLeer’s Dutchmen have positioned themselves for a high seed come late February with victories over Cuba and Salem.

Ryan Flanagan’s Dutchgirl basketball team will encounter another tough district field later in the season against the likes of Cuba, Salem, St. Clair, St. Francis Borgia, St. James and Sullivan.

Owensville already has victories over Salem, St. Clair and St. Francis Borgia.

They will look to add to that list tonight (Wednesday) taking on St. James in the semifinals of the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic at Sullivan High School at 6 p.m.

No matters if it’s on the hardwood or mats, it should be a fun road to district time come February.
