Doris enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and researching her family history. She and her husband Stanley owned and operated the Old Bait House for many years.  She owned/operated a day care/pre-school center for over 30 years. She was a Hermann alderman (first woman alderman) for six years – including two years as president – and was Hermann’s first woman mayor, serving six years.  During her time as mayor, she was instrumental in securing funding for the new Hermann Bridge, renovations at the Amtrak station and other projects. Also, she was a past president of the Hermann VFW chapter, served on the Maifest Council and was park board secretary.

Doris researched her genealogy back to the American Revolution.  She was a previous member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and the DUVCW (Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War).  Her ancestors fought in the American Revolution and her ancestor Jabez Harrison was killed at the Battle of Athens in 1861 at the onset of the Civil War. Doris’ relatives included Benjamin Harrison, who signed the Declaration of Independence, and Presidents William Henry Harrison, Benjamin Harrison and Abraham Lincoln.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 13, at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, with Rev. Dave Thomas officiating. Burial was at Oak Haven Memorial Gardens, Hermann. Memorial contributions suggested to Hermann Area Crusade Against Cancer, Hermann VFW or Hermann Christian Church.
