Dr. Chad McCoy 1929-2025

Dr. Chad McCoy, 95, Chillicothe, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Stonebridge Community in Chillicothe.

He was born June 7, 1929, the son of Howard Clemont and Adah Pearl (Chadwick) McCoy Bishop in Albany.

He was a graduate of Albany High School and in 1952 attended Washington University in St. Louis as an undergrad where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1954.

Chad served his country in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1946 until 1948.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Whitlow Aug. 30, 1952 in Kirkwood. She preceded him in death April 18, 2007.

On Dec. 20, 2008,  Chad was united in marriage to Sharon (Powell) McCall of Chillicothe.

He was a second generation dentist and started his dental practice in Chillicothe in 1954, retiring after 55 years at the age of 80.

Chad was a member of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and was president of the Missouri Dental Association in 1993. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and sang in the choir, he was a Lions Club member as well. Chad was very active with the Boy Scouts as the Assistant Scout Master of Troop #123, Advisor to Explore Post #123 and assisting many other Chillicothe Scout Troops, mainly Troop #120. He was the longest living Chieftain for the Tribe of Mic-O-Say of the Pony Express Council, and received the Silver Beaver Award.

Chad enjoyed playing golf with his long-time friend, Jack Neal. He loved to travel and visited over 150 countries, even participating in the Christian Dental Society providing dental work in Guatemala in the 1960s and 70s. He and his children hiked across the Grand Canyon together.

He was preceded in death by first wife, Betty McCoy; parents, Howard and Adah; son, Bruce M. McCoy; sister, Joan Ostertag; and brother, Tom Bishop.

Chad is survived by wife, Sharon; daughters, Chrysa Niewald and husband Richard of Owensville and Claudia Perry of Kansas City;  son, Rolfe C. McCoy and wife Julie of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Matthew,  Andy, Adam and Rachel Niewald, Lauren Webb, Emily Mattingly, Heidi Pryor and Maggie McConville; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Abigail, Olivia, Ethan, Parker, Lucas, Isabella, Emily, Karsin, Henli, Elliott, Elyse, Adah Pearl, Zeppelin, Oliver and Lennon; step-sons, John McCall and wife Emily of Gardner, Kan. and Tom McCall of St. Charles; brother, Jim Bishop and wife Kaye of Georgetown, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 12, at the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe followed by a Celebration of Life at the Chillicothe Country Club.

A private family inurnment will be held at Edgewood Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Pony Express Council Boy Scouts of America.
