With the momentum of a 15-2 win at St. James last Tuesday and a 16-5 victory at OHS Field two days later, Hannah Wehar’s Dutchgirls went into the Owensville Softball Tournament Saturday with much-needed confidence.

Opening with a 12-4 win over New Haven, OHS then had a long wait until their second tournament game against South Callaway.

Falling 5-2 to the Lady Bulldogs, Owensville once again saw their tournament championship plaque heading elsewhere.

In their final tournament, the Dutchgirls faced Capital City’s Lady Cavaliers for the third time in an 18-day span.

Behind a solid outing from Addison Wright, OHS ended their tournament with an 8-0 shutout settling for second place.

Senior lead-off batter Caelie Horstmann walked and scored three times against New Haven in addition to recording a single in her fourth at bat of the game.

Anna Finley added three hits and scored a pair of runs while Halie Boyer had two hits and two runs scored from the third spot in the batting order.

During their second game of the tournament, South Callaway limited the Dutchgirls to singles from Leah Reed, Boyer and Wright in addition to a two-run home run by Mackenzie Rademacher in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Closing the tournament against Capital City, this marked the third meeting between the Dutchgirls and Lady Cavaliers during the month of September. This was also the third different field that they’ve faced off on with the first meeting in Jefferson City after Labor Day and the second meeting during the Peoples Bank Back to School Softball Classic in Sullivan last weekend.

Playing the role of visitors on the score board for the second time in the tournament, Owensville once again took advantage by scoring first.

A Finley single and a Boyer double brought Rademacher to the plate with two outs before she delivered a two-RBI triple to right field giving the Dutchgirls a 2-0 lead.

As it turned out, that was all they needed throughout the rest of the game.

However, they scored three runs in the top of the third inning and three runs in the fifth for good measure.

Singles by Horstmann and Finley highlighted the third inning while doubles from Katelyn Landolt and Wright sparked the three-run fifth inning.

In Four Rivers Conference (FRC) softball action last Thursday with St. Clair’s Lady Bulldogs in town, Owensville put the game away with a historic blast in the bottom of the second inning.

Already leading 2-0, Kaitlyn Nelson singled and scored only to see Horstmann keep the two-out rally alive with OHS leading 3-0.

Scoring to make it 4-0, Horstmann saw Finley walk, Boyer reach on a hit along with Wright walking to load the bases for Rademacher.

Hitting the first pitch she saw, Rademacher forever became the answer to a future trivia question by hitting a grand slam home run over the center-field fence. This is because she became the first Owensville Dutchgirl hitter to record a home run on the newly constructed softball/baseball turf field.
