Hannah Wehar’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team hoped some Monday home cooking against Cuba’s Lady Wildcats would snap a three-game losing streak from last week with losses on the road at Fatima, Union and Salem.

Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the first inning, OHS quickly jumped on Cuba pitching to the tune of eight runs before going on to a 15-3 victory in five innings.

Seeing Abby Wilson single and score for Cuba in the top of the first, Owensville looked for a quick answer in the bottom of the first inning.

Batting in the leadoff spot, senior Caelie Horstmann lifted a 1-1 pitch into left-center field good for a triple to start the game.

Horstmann then scored on an Anna Finley RBI single tying the game at 1-1.

Following a Halie Boyer single, Dutchgirl sophomore pitcher Addison Wright looked to help her own cause.

Two pitches into her at bat, she lined a sharp hit to right field for a two-RBI triple giving Owensville a 3-1 lead.

Later in the inning, Wright scampered home on a wild pitch pushing the Dutchgirl lead to 4-1 with one out in the bottom of the first.

Katelyn Landolt and Kaitlyn Nelson delivered consecutive singles setting up Paige Loyd with two runners on and two outs.

Hitting the first pitch she saw, Loyd delivered a RBI double scoring Landolt giving the Dutchgirls a 5-1 lead.

Batting for the second time in the inning, Horstmann added to her leadoff triple with a two-out double.

Finley added a RBI double to her single capping Owensville’s eight-run first inning.

Seeing Wright retire the side in the top of the second inning, her Dutchgirl offense went back to work in the bottom half of the second.

Wright led off reaching on an error before being retired on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Mackenzie Rademacher.

Alyssa Belloir came off the bench as a courtesy runner for Rademacher.

Back-to-back walks to Nelson and Leah Reed loaded the bases for Loyd.

Running the count full, Loyd drew a bases-loaded walk allowing Belloir to score giving Owensville a 9-1 lead with Horstmann now getting an at bat with the bases full of Dutchgirls.

Hitting a sharp single to left field, the Dutchgirl senior gave OHS a 10-1 lead and found herself a home run away from the cycle.

Nearing a double-digit lead, Wright pitched around a walk in the top of the third inning.

Starting a two-out rally in the bottom of the third, Rademacher tripled to right-center field before Belloir came in to run for her.

Landolt delivered her second run batted in of the game driving in Belloir for an 11-1 Owensville lead after three innings.

Giving up a two-run home run to Cuba’s Diamond Payne in the top of the fourth, the Dutchgirls now had an 11-3 lead looking to get their double-digit advantage back.

Loyd started the bottom of the fourth with a one-out single before Horstmann and Finley walked to load the bases for Boyer.

A Boyer RBI single scored Boyer before Horstmann also came around to score on a Cuba throwing error pushing OHS’ lead back into double digits, 13-3.

Rademacher then reached on another error allowing Finley and Boyer to score giving Owensville a 15-3 victory in five innings after Wright retired Cuba in order in the top half of the fifth inning.
