Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball team found this out during recent tournament action in Warrenton and Hermann closing out September and opening October last week.
Ending the September portion of their volleyball slate at the Megan Gross Invitational in Warrenton, Owensville defeated Mexico in three sets for their lone match victory.
Falling 25-21 and 25-17 to Fort Zumwalt West (FZW), Lily Sample led the Dutchgirls with seven kills against the Lady Jaguars while Ruvia Nowack served the lone ace against FZW.
Mya Vandegriffe recorded a pair of solo blocks while Callie Koelling added a solo block of her own.
Cameron Nowack paced Owensville against the Lady Jaguars with six digs while Camryn Caldwell followed closely with five.
Caldwell also added a team-high seven assists to her five digs.
Losing both sets to Battle 25-19 and 25-16, Koelling led the Dutchgirls with four kills against the Lady Spartans while Cameron Nowack and Sample each added three kills.
Clara Julius served a team-high two aces while Addi Menz added one of her own against Battle.
Vandegriffe recorded the lone two blocks for the orange and black against the Lady Spartans.
Recording four digs apiece against Battle for Owensville were Liz Adams, Madi Lewis, Cameron Nowack and Caldwell.
Reece Hampton and Caldwell each dished out a team-high five assists for OHS.
Also falling in two sets 25-20 and 25-16 against the St. Louis Panthers, Menz led the Dutchgirls with four kills.
Ruvia Nowack, Adams and Hampton each served up an ace for Owensville.
Cameron Nowack, Lewis, Menz and Vandegriffe each had blocks against the St. Louis Panthers.
Julius led the orange and black with six digs while Hampton also dished out a team-high six assists.
Defeating Mexico in three sets (25-21, 20-25 and 25-23), Sample had nine kills to lead the Dutchgirls against the Lady Bulldogs while Hampton served a team-high two aces.
Menz recorded three blocks while Adams led three Dutchgirls diggers in double figures with 15.
Cameron Nowack (11) and Julius (10) also reached double digits in digs against Mexico.
Caldwell dished out a team-high 17 assists for OHS against the Lady Bulldogs.
Last Tuesday in Hermann, Owensville split their opening pool match against New Haven before being swept in their other two against the St. Louis Panthers and Pacific Lady Indians.
Against New Haven, Owensville took game one 25-21 before the Lady Shamrocks took game two 25-18 to split the match.
Lewis led the Dutchgirls with four kills while Hampton added a team-high two aces.
Rachel Koepke and Menz each recorded four blocks for the orange and black while Adams showed the way with 12 digs for OHS.
Caldwell also dished out a team-high five assists against the Lady Shamrocks.
Getting another shot at the St. Louis Panthers, Owensville could not break through dropping both sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-12.
Sample recorded six kills while Julius served up two aces for Owensville.
Menz posted the lone block against the Panthers while Adams recorded a team-high 15 digs.
Caldwell dished out a team-high six assists for OHS against the Panthers.
Closing out pool play against Pacific, Owensville dropped both sets of the match 25-12 and 25-16.
Joleen Braun and Lewis led OHS with three kills against the Lady Indians while Caldwell served up a team-high two aces.
Menz posted a team-leading two blocks against Pacific while Adams recorded a team-leading nine digs.
Adding to her two aces, Caldwell also dished out six assists.
After hosting Hermann last night (Tuesday) on Pink Out Night, Owensville will venture east on Highway 50 to Union for a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) road volleyball showdown against the host Lady Wildcats with a 4:30 p.m., start time for the freshman match.
