Dutchgirl spikers sweep New Haven, St. James

Facing a pair of Four Rivers Conference (FRC) foes last week, Jamie Ridenhour’s Dutchgirl volleyball teams looked to add two more notches to the FRC win column.

Hosting New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks last Tuesday, Owensville defeated New Haven 25-11 and 25-19 in the freshman match before Misti Rutledge’s JV Dutchgirls also swept the Lady Shamrocks in two sets 25-8 and 25-15.

Going for the sweep, Ridenhour’s varsity Dutchgirls hit the court against New Haven.

Looking to complete a seven-set night, Owensville did exactly that with a three-set victory in varsity action 25-18, 25-22 and 25-19.

Emily McKinney recorded a match-high eight kills followed closely with seven kills from Haley Coello.

McKinney also served up two aces while Coello and Josie Gerlemann both recorded three blocks each.

Adding to her aces and kills, McKinney also posted a match-high 27 digs to go along with 13 each from Cadi Ruth and Grace McFalls.

Kyla Hendrix dished out a match-high 12 assists followed by nine from Kylie Kitchen.

Two nights later at St. James, Taylor Payne’s freshman squad got the night off while Rutledge’s JV Dutchgirls swept St. James in two sets 25-8 and 25-7.

Varsity action saw another three-set win for Owensville 29-27, 25-23 and 25-17.

McKinney had 12 kills to lead the Dutchgirls while Olivia Vandegriffe served up a match-high three aces.

OHS will travel to Pacific tomorrow (Thursday) at 5 p.m. before hosing Hermann on Tuedsay, Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m., at Owensville High School.
