Five days removed from a sweep at Capital City High School in Jefferson City, Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball looked to duplicate the feat last Tuesday night against Belle’s Lady Tigers in what was also senior night for five Dutchgirl seniors.

Seeing their freshmen (25-16, 25-18) and junior varsity (25-15, 25-15) counterparts win their matches in two sets, the varsity Dutchgirls looked to make it a clean sweep of all three matches.

Dropping the first set 25-22, Owensville stormed back to take the next three sets and the match 22-25, 25-9, 25-11 and 25-7.

“We came out flat in the first set and I’m proud of the way our girls fought back to win the match for our seniors,” Dutchgirl head volleyball coach Jamie Ridenhour said.

In the freshman match, McKenna Edwards finished with a team-high five aces followed closely with four aces from Anya Binkhoelter.

Belle was led by the quartet of Madisun Bailey, Olivia Koch, Tegan Trainer and Mea Jones with an ace each.

Showing the way for Owensville in the junior varsity match, Payton Boyd recorded a team-high seven aces followed by two aces from Harley Pyrtle.

Mackenzie Garner led Belle with six service points in a losing cause for the Lady Tigers.

Official stats for the varsity match were not available by press time.

Following their senior-night victory over Belle, Ridenhour’s varsity Dutchgirls competed in the Jefferson City Round Robin Volleyball Tournament at Jefferson City High School.

In pool play, the Dutchgirls fell in two sets to Rock Bridge (Columbia), Warrenton and Hermann.

Playing in the fifth-place match, Owensville fell to Warrenton in two sets 25-16 and 31-29 to settle for sixth place.
