Home court advantage.
That is what Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball team had earlier this week during the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 3 Tournament at Owensville High School.
Needing four sets to defeat St. James Monday night, OHS advanced to the district championship match the next night against Sullivan’s Lady Eagles.
Needing only three sets to end their 41-year district title drought dating back to 1979, Owensville won the match in three sets 25-22, 25-22 and 25-22.
“We had our best passing of the season tonight,” Ridenhour said. “I’m so incredibly proud of each and every one of our players.”
With Tuesday’s victory, the Dutchgirls will host three other teams in MSHSAA Class 3 Sectional and Quarterfinal volleyball action Saturday afternoon.
Beginning at 1:30 p.m., Owensville will face Dexter followed by the other sectional contest between Visitation Academy and Central (Park Hills) at 3:30 p.m.
The winners of those two matches will face off at approximately 5:30 p.m., in the quarterfinals to determine who advances to the Class 3 Volleyball Final Four in Cape Girardeau next week.
