Kill two birds with one stone.
That is pretty much what Ryan Flanagan’s Owensville Dutchgirls did Monday night on the road in Phelps County against St. James’ Lady Tigers.
Leading the Class 4, seventh-ranked Lady Tigers 27-22 at halftime, Owensville outscored St. James 26-16 in the second half to position themselves for a possible Four Rivers Conference (FRC) title run and a top seed in the upcoming Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 4, District 3 Tournament later this month at Sullivan High School following a 53-38 victory.
Anna Finley led the Dutchgirls with a game-high 24 points followed in double figures with 10 points from Keira Hendrix.
Prior to their 65-57 loss at home Friday night to Columbia Hickman, the Dutchgirls posted another FRC road victory coming from behind to defeat Union 40-38.
Now sitting at 4-0 in FRC play, Owensville just needs wins over Hermann, New Haven and Sullivan to claim their first conference title since 2016.
“Now we just need to take care of business the rest of the way,” Flanagan said of Owensville’s remaining schedule of conference games.
