One day removed from a 65-33 victory on the road at St. Francis Borgia to open their season, Ryan Flanagan’s Owensville Dutchgirl basketball team looked to make it two in a row last Tuesday in Jefferson City against Capital City’s Lady Cavaliers.

Surviving a very physically-played game, Flanagan’s varsity Dutchgirls turned a 31-16 halftime lead into a 65-30 victory bumping their record to 2-0.

Holding Capital City to six first-quarter points, the Dutchgirls saw seven different players help them rack up 14 points in the first eight minutes.

Anna Finley led the way with four first-quarter points followed by three from Emma Daniels in addition to two each from Ella Gehlert, and Keira Hendrix.

Camryn Caldwell, Ali Daniels and Kyla Hendrix each added a free throw for one point apiece.

Winning the second quarter 17-10, Owensville went into halftime with a 31-16 lead behind eight first-half points from Emma Daniels.

Starting the second half outscoring the Lady Cavaliers 19-9, the Dutchgirls doubled up Capital City’s point total leading 50-25 going into the fourth quarter.

Winning the final eight minutes 15-5, Owensville scored their second road win in as many nights.

Kyla Hendrix led four Dutchgirls in double figures with 17 points followed closely by Emma Daniels with a near double double effort of 13 points and eight rebounds.

Finley joined the double-digit quartet with 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Caldwell recorded her first double-digit scoring game as a varsity Dutchgirl with 10 points.

Gehlert and Ali Daniels chipped in six points each followed by four markers from Keira Hendrix.

Addison Wright rounded out the Dutchgirl scoring with one point against the Lady Cavaliers.

Natalie Allison led Capital City with a team-high eight points.

JV Dutchgirls at Capital City

Fresh off a 51-12 victory at St. Francis Borgia, Terra Heidle’s junior varsity Dutchgirls also looked to move to 2-0 on the young season.

Only able to play two quarters due to low numbers, Owensville came away with a  31-25 victory to also go to 2-0 on the young season.

Anya Binkhoelter led the JV Dutchgirls and all scorers with a game-high 15 points.

Ali Daniels and Caldwell followed with eight points each.

Due to injuries and players that did not have the required 14 practices to be eligible, Heidle’s JV Dutchgirls had to pull out of this week’s Marquette JV Tournament.

They will return to action on Monday, Dec. 6 hosting St. Clair’s Lady Bulldogs in Owensville’s Four Rivers Conference (FRC) opener at 5:30 p.m.
