Ryan Flanagan’s Owensville Dutchgirl basketball team went into their road contest at Salem last Tuesday night looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
Racing out to a 22-3 lead after one quarter, OHS made their recent losses to Steelville, Fatima and Helias (Jefferson City) distant memories following their 60-24 victory in Dent County over the host Lady Tigers.
Of those 22 first-quarter points, 19 of them came from sophomore Emma Daniels (10) and senior Anna Finley (9). Freshman Camryn Caldwell hit a 3-pointer to round out the first-quarter scoring for the Dutchgirls.
Holding Salem to six second-quarter points, Owensville nearly doubled their first-quarter point total before taking a 43-9 lead into halftime.
Ali Daniels (6) and Kyla Hendrix (5) paced the Dutchgirls in the scoring column during the second quarter.
Emma Daniels added five second-quarter points giving her a game-high 14 points in the first half.
Finley also reached double-digit scoring in the first half with 11 markers.
Edging Salem 13-8 to start the second half, Owensville carried a 56-17 lead into the fourth quarter.
Their 39-point lead meant it would start as a running clock due to the 30-point mercy rule per the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).
Scoring all four of Owensville’s fourth-quarter points, Finley finished with a game-high 20 points leading all scorers.
Emma Daniels finished with 18 points putting in 15 of them in the first half.
Caldwell hit three first-half 3-pointers giving her nine markers for the game.
Ali Daniels added eight points in addition to Kyla Hendrix’s five second-quarter points.
Hitting eight of their nine 3-point shots for the game in the first half, Salem found out last Tuesday night that the Dutchgirl offense can be potent from inside or outside the 3-point line.
Turning back the Liberty Christian Lady Eagles 57-29 Monday night in first-round action at the Hermann Girls Invitational Basketball Tournament, Flanagan’s second-seeded Dutchgirls will face the third-seeded host Lady Bearcats tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m., in the Hermann High School gym with a second consecutive trip to the tournament championship game on the line.
