Defeating Northwest (Cedar Hill) and Salem at the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic (PBHC) earlier this month, Ryan Flanagan’s Owensville Dutchgirl basketball team closed the 2018 portion of their season last Monday night at Fulton High School against the Lady Hornets.

Limiting the host Lady Hornets to five first-quarter points, OHS put 22 on the board before going on to a decisive 70-37 road victory giving them a three-game winning streak and a 5-3 record going into 2019.

In that 22-5 first quarter, Owensville got five points each from Destinee Busenhart, Liana Miller and Breanna Diestelkamp.

Edging Fulton 12-10 to close the first half, the Dutchgirls went into halftime on the road with a 34-15 advantage in Callaway County.

Scoring eight second-quarter points, Diestelkamp paced the Dutchgirls with a baker’s dozen (13) in the first half.

Outscoring Fulton 36-22 in the second half, Owensville finished the month of December with a 5-1 record.

Diestelkamp led the Dutchgirls with 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Continuing her comeback from two knee injuries in two years, Miller also reached double figures with 15 points to go along with six rebounds and six steals.

Fresh off her selection to the PBHC All-Tournament Team, freshman point guard Anna Finley just missed double digits in scoring but made up for it by dishing out 10 assists, pulling down five rebounds and collecting three steals.

Stephani Elliott and Busenhart followed with five points apiece along with four markers each out of Ella Wright and Anna Skornia.

Both Kyla and Keira Hendrix each added three points in addition to a bucket from Kate Angell for two points to round out the Dutchgirl scoring from Fulton.

OHS will open the 2019 portion of their season at Cuba against the Lady Wildcats on Wednesday, Jan. 2 with a 5:30 p.m., tip time for junior-varsity action.
