ST JAMES — Score however you can.

That was the case Saturday for Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team during a four-team jamboree at Nelson Hart Park in St. James.

Opening their portion of the jamboree, Owensville took on Hermann’s Lady Bearcats in a showdown of Gasconade County softball teams.

Falling behind 1-0 after a half inning, Owensville answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning before going to claim an 8-4 victory in two innings due to the jamboree time limit rule.

Allowing a Hermann run on wild pitch in the top of the first inning, Dutchgirl freshman starting pitcher Cailin Floyd saw the offense pick her up in the bottom half of the frame.

Ali Daniels tied the game at 1-1 scoring on a wild pitch before Kate Blankenship scored on a passed ball giving the Dutchgirls a 2-1 lead.

Emma Daniels then scored on another wild pitch before Floyd helped her own cause with a RBI ground out scoring April Jahnsen for a 4-1 Dutchgirl lead.

Jessalyn Farris ended the bottom of the first inning scoring on another wild pitch giving OHS a 5-1 lead after one inning.

In jamborees, innings end when either three outs are recorded or five runs are scored.

Hermann got three runs back on a passed ball, wild pitch and a bases loaded walk trimming the Owensville lead to 5-4 going into the bottom of the second inning.

Bailee Dare became the latest Dutchgirl to score on a wild pitch for a 6-4 OHS lead.

Blankenship then hit a well-placed ball into right field past Hermann’s right field allowing her to circle the bases for an inside-the-park home run giving the Dutchgirls an 8-4 win over Hermann in two innings.

Jamboree games also lasted three innings or 60 minutes, whichever came first.

Next up for Owensville in Phelps County was St. Clair’s Lady Bulldogs.

A Jahnsen RBI ground out scoring Blankenship along with Emma Daniels scoring on a wild pitch helped OHS to a 5-0 lead after the top of the first inning.

Seeing their lead cut to 5-3 on a wild pitch and two passed ball, Floyd’s defense came to the rescue on an inning-ending triple play allowing the Dutchgirls to take a two-run lead into the top of the second inning.

Dare started the second-inning scoring with a RBI single scoring Clara Julius for a 6-3 lead.

Emma Daniels then drove Dare in with another RBI single for a 7-3 Dutchgirl advantage.

Two errors allowed Blankenship and Emma Daniels to score before a Caidence Goodman RBI single ended the top of the second inning with Owensville on top 10-3.

St. Clair got a run back on a passed ball but the Dutchgirls claimed their second win of the day by a score of 10-4 in two innings.

Closing out the jamboree against the host Lady Tigers, Owensville made it a clean sweep of their FRC foes with a 10-5 victory over St. James.

Koppelmann’s Dutchgirls will begin their regular season Friday morning in Sullivan at the Campbell-Chapman Sports Complex as part of the 16-team Peoples Bank Back to School Softball Classic.

Placed in Pool B, Owensville will be competing against Hillsboro’s Lady Hawks, Linn’s Lady Wildcats and Washington’s Lady Blue Jays.

OHS will play their pool contests at 10:15 a.m., against Washington followed by a high noon showdown against Linn.

Owensville will close pool play at approximately 3:30 p.m., against Hillsboro.

Results of the three pool games will determine Saturday action.
