Seeing a late lead disappear three nights earlier against New Haven, Hannah Wehar’s Owensville JV Dutchgirls looked to get back on the winning track Thursday night against Pacific’s Lady Indians.

Trailing 8-5 midway through a two-quarter junior varsity game, OHS outscored Pacific 9-2 over the final seven minutes to hang on for a 14-10 victory.

Playing from behind the entire first quarter, Owensville got points in the first seven minutes from a Landry Watson 3-pointer along with free throws from Kiana Guerrero and Abby Terry.

Guerrero started Owensville’s aforementioned second-quarter run with a bucket moments into the second quarter.

Adding to her 3-pointer in the first quarter, Watson connected on a two-point field goal seconds later giving the JV Dutchgirls their first lead of the game at 9-8 with 6:17 remaining.

Picking a good time to hit her first 3-point shot, Ella Gehlert connected on one on an assist from Guerrero for a 12-8 OHS lead with 5:25 to go.

Nearly going scoreless the rest of the game, Abby Terry redeemed herself with a put back basket in the closing seconds after she missed a pair of free throws moments earlier.

Watson finished with a game-high five points to go with three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.

Gehlert, Guerrero and Terry each added three points for Wehar’s JV Dutchgirls.

Guerrero also added a team-high three steals.

Molly Prichard led Pacific with four points and four rebounds.

Holding New Haven to 21 points three nights earlier, Ryan Flanagan’s varsity Dutchgirls looked to make it two Four Rivers Conference (FRC) wins in a row in varsity action Thursday night against the visiting Lady Indians from Pacific.

Trailing for nearly a two-minute stretch of the first quarter, Owensville used a 9-2 run in the final 1:25 of the opening quarter of their 54-30 victory in varsity action.

Getting the first five points from sophomore point guard Anna Finley, OHS saw Pacific take a brief 7-5 lead before a Kiera Hendrix bucket knotted the game at 7-7 at the 1:25 mark.

Over the final 1:05 of the first period, Finley tacked on five more points before a Kyla Hendrix 3-pointer in the closing seconds helped the Dutchgirls to a 14-9 lead after eight minutes of basketball.

Nursing a 17-15 lead near the midway point of the second quarter, Owensville went on another run to close the first half.

Sparked by a Kyla Hendrix basket, the Dutchgirls ended the second quarter on a 9-2 run for a 26-17 halftime lead.

Adding to her 10 first-quarter points, Finley netted seven in the second period to equal Pacific’s point total.

Seeing the Lady Indians close within six, Owensville turned to Finley to get their lead back to double digits.

Hitting a pair of buckets in a :24 span, Finley gave the Dutchgirls a double-digit lead at 30-20 with 5:13 for the third quarter.

Trading points the rest of the period with Pacific, Owensville entered the fourth quarter with a 35-27 lead over the visiting Lady Indians.

Fourth-quarter action for the Dutchgirls was helped very much by the 3-point shot.

Two from Kate Angell and one from Finley pushed the Dutchgirl to 18 at 46-28 with 4:40 left capping an 11-1 Owensville run to start the fourth period.

Limiting Pacific to three free throws and no field goals in the fourth quarter, Flanagan’s Dutchgirls closed the home portion of their season with a victory.

Pretty much having the hot hand all night, Finley finished with a career-high 31 points nearly making it a double double with seven rebounds.

Angell’s 3-pointers in the fourth quarter helped her into double-digit scoring finishing with 10 points. She also added four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Kiera Hendrix added seven points and seven rebounds while her twin sister Kyla Hendrix chipped in six points, five steals, four rebounds and two assists.

Annie Mueller led Pacific in a losing cause with a team-high 14 points.
