A hoops trifecta.

That is what Owensville Dutchmen basketball was shooting for last Thursday night when Scott Lewis’ freshman Dutchmen hosted Sullivan’s Eagles while OMS Dutchmen hoops squads coached by Taylor Payne and Shane Hunt were on the road in Franklin County taking on the Eagles.

By the time the final whistle blew in Sullivan, all three Owensville basketball squads posted victories in their respective contests.

Defeating Rolla 41-33 last Tuesday, Payne’s seventh-grade Dutchmen looked to run their record to 10-0 two nights later on the road against the Sullivan Eagles.

Doubling up Sullivan 22-11 in the first half, Owensville played an even second half against the Eagles before going on to a 33-24 victory on the court they will be playing at next week during the annual Sullivan 7th Grade Boys Basketball Tournament.

Scoring eight first half points, Brady Watson finished with a game-high 12 points to lead Payne’s Dutchmen in scoring against Sullivan.

Keigan Glaser also reached double digits scoring seven of his 10 points in the first half.

Wyatt Lewis followed six points in addition to three markers from Brenner Thompson and two points from Chase Crosby.

Looking to bounce back from a tough loss at Rolla, Hunt’s Dutchmen went for their second victory in three games at Sullivan.

Racing out to a 13-2 lead after one quarter, the 8th grade Dutchmen never looked back going on to a 50-22 win over Sullivan.

Outscoring the Eagles by himself with 11 first-half points, Chase Weirich led Owensville with a game-high 18 points followed in double figures by Ricky Marquez with 11 points.

Marquez netted seven of those in the fourth quarter.

Adam Wilson was next with six points followed closely with five from Corbyn Hamann and four points from Logan Valley.

Scoring two points each for the 8th grade Dutchmen against Sullivan were Henry Womack, Caden Ely and Chris Allen.

Back in Owensville, Lewis’ Dutchmen freshman shut out Sullivan 18-0 in the second quarter before going on to a trifecta-completing 47-24 victory.

Like the 1984 sitcom Charles in Charge, Dutchmen freshman Charles Hazelwood led Owensville with a team-high 11 points followed closely with nine points from Eli Graham.

Ethan Ditto and Derrick Marquez kicked in seven points.
