Dutchmen, Dutchgirls find out spring sports district assignments

Friday morning, Owensville High School (OHS) student-athletes in track and field, girls soccer, baseball and boys golf found out their district assignments through the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).

Kim McGee’s Owensville Dutchgirl soccer team will stay in Class 2, District 4 with three of the same opposing teams to go with four different ones.

Last year’s C2, D4 field consisted of Owensville, Blair Oaks, Helias, Southern Boone, Osage, St. Clair, St. James and Sullivan.

This year, Owensville will see teams more closer to the St. Louis area versus Jefferson City.

Affton (C2D1), Clayton (C3D3), St. Francis Borgia (C2D3) and Westminster Christian Academy (C2D3) will take the places of Helias, Blair Oaks, Southern Boone and Osage in this year’s C2D4 field.

Steven Kemp’s Owensville Dutchmen baseball team will see nothing change from last year’s Class 4, District 4 Tournament.

Once again hosted by St. Clair High School, teams competing along with the host Bulldogs and Dutchmen include Cuba, Salem, St. James and defending district champion Sullivan.

Owensville’s road to state golf will also remain relatively unchanged as the majority of the Class 3, District 1 Tournament field will remain the same from last year.

Standing between Cullen VanLeer’s OHS Golf team and a trip to the state tournament will be golfers from Central (Park Hills), Cuba, Dexter, Doniphan, Fredericktown, Herculaneum, Kennett, Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau), Perryville, Potosi, Salem, St. Clair, St. James, Ste. Genevieve and Sullivan.

St. Francis Borgia will also join the C3D1 Tournament field after competing in Class 3, District 2 last spring.

Enduring trips to extreme southwest Missouri in years past, Matt Candrl’s OHS Dutchmen and Dutchgirl track teams will not have to stray too far from home during their road to the MSHSAA Track and Field Championships scheduled for May 23-24 at the Roberta and Dennis Licklider Track Complex inside Jefferson City High School’s Atkins Stadium.

Teams that will be competing against the Dutchmen the second weekend of May include Bowling Green, Hermann, John Burroughs, Montgomery County, Principia, Priory, St. Charles West, St. Francis Borgia, Whitfield, Winfield and Wright City.

Bowling Green (C3D4) will be taking the place of Orchard Farm this spring as they were moved up to Class 4, District 3.

Candrl’s Dutchgirls will also be competing against Bowling Green, Hermann, Montgomery County, St. Charles West, St. Francis Borgia, Villa Duchesne, Visitation Academy, Winfield and Wright City.

Orchard Farm (C4D3) and Ursuline Academy (C4D5) were both moved up to Class 4 this spring after being in Owensville’s district last spring.

After the district meet will be held at Dutchmen Field over Mother’s Day weekend, Owensville’s Class 3 Sectional track meet the following weekend will be held north of Hermann along Highway 19 at Montgomery County High School.
