Dutchmen find FRC win column at Union

Having their homecoming spoiled four nights earlier by Hermann, Todd Rehmert’s Owensville Dutchmen hit the road last Tuesday night taking on Union’s Wildcats.

Dropping their first two Four Rivers Conference (FRC) games to St. Clair and Hermann, OHS looked to put their first notch in the win column and get their second victory over the Wildcats this season.

Leading 33-15 at halftime, Owensville needed nearly every point of that lead.

Outscored 31-22 in the second half, the Dutchmen saw the Wildcats cut the lead into single digits before OHS held on, 55-46.

Of Owensville’s 16 first-quarter points, seven came from Daxton Mehrhoff followed closely by six from Tyler Heidbrink.

Blitzing the Wildcats 17-4 in the second quarter, Bryor Bogle led the scoring charge with eight second-quarter points. That was also good enough to lead the Dutchmen in the first half.

Outscored 12-5 to start the second half, OHS got three points from Brendan Decker helping the Dutchmen take a 38-27 lead into the final eight minutes of basketball from Union High School.

Hitting five of eight free throws in the fourth quarter, Owensville took advantage of the charity helping them into the FRC win column.

Derek Brandt, Bogle and Decker each had 10 points to pace the Dutchmen offense.

Heidbrink nearly made it four OHS players in double figures finishing with nine points.

Mehrhoff scored seven of his eight points in the opening quarter.

Cason Gray added six points while Zaid Epstein rounded out the Dutchmen scoring with two points.

OHS dropped the JV game 52-32 behind nine points each from Reese Rehmert and Bryce Payne.
