Dutchmen score FRC road win at New Haven

A notch in the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) win column.

That is what Cullen VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchmen were going for last Tuesday night on the road along Highway 100 at New Haven against the host Shamrocks.

Entering the game on a six-game losing streak, the orange and black were also looking to snap that.

Nursing a 24-22 lead at halftime, Owensville outscored New Haven 11-2 in the third quarter helping them to a 42-31 victory for their first FRC win of the season.

Bryce Payne led the Dutchmen with 15 points, five steals, four rebounds and two assists.

Tanner Meyer just missed double digits for Owensville finishing with eight points and a team-high six steals.

Will Lauth was next in the scoring column with seven points for the Dutchmen followed closely by Charlie Whelan scoring five of his six points in the first half.

Layne Evans chipped in four points followed by two markers from Landon Ely.

Dishing out two assists apiece for the Dutchmen were Evans, Meyer, Payne and Whelan.

Andrew Rethemeyer led New Haven with a double double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Andrew Noelke nearly made it a pair of double doubles for the Shamrocks finishing with seven points and 11 rebounds.

Scott Lewis’ Owensville junior varsity Dutchmen opened the FRC doubleheader last Tuesday in Franklin County with a 47-27 victory over New Haven’s JV Shamrocks.

Noah Caldwell netted nine of his team-high 13 points in the first half for the JV Dutchmen followed closely with nine points from Chase Weirich.

Zaiden Gates also just missed double figures scoring six of his eight points in the first half.
