Friday night, Todd Rehmert’s Owensville Dutchmen looked to end the home portion of their schedule on a winning note with Pacific’s Indians in town.

Locked in a tight game the whole 32 minutes, Owensville edged Pacific 19-16 in the final eight minutes to hold on for a 54-50 victory over the Indians for the first time since the 2011 Owensville Tournament.

“This was a big win for our program,” Rehmert said. “I’m happy for our seniors that got to get a win in their final home game.”

Getting points from six different Dutchmen in the first eight minutes, OHS took a 13-10 lead over Pacific after one quarter.

Justin Garner hit a 3-ball for three points followed by two each from Brendan Decker, Cason Gray, Derek Brandt, Trevor Abernathy and Boyde Nicks.

Don’Ta Harris scored all 10 Pacific points in the first quarter.

Outscored 11-8 in the second quarter, Owensville suddenly found themselves tied with the Indians at halftime, 21-21.

Decker added four second-quarter points giving him a team-high six markers in the first half.

Tyler Heidbrink and Brandt also scored two points each for OHS in the second quarter helping to knot the game at halftime.

Continuing to be locked in a close game, Owensville edged the Indians 14-13 to open the second half and take a 35-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

Gray led the Dutchmen in the third quarter with five points followed by three each from Garner and Nicks.

Abernathy also added a basket to go with a Heidbrink free throw in the third.

Holding Pacific off in the final eight minutes, Owensville went 10-14 from the free-throw line helping them end a nine-year victory drought against Pacific.

Scoring 12 second-half points, Gray made his senior night memorable with a team-high 14 points.

Decker helped his upper classmen teammates also reaching double figures with 12 points.

Abernathy scored seven second-half points finishing with nine points just missing double digits.

Garner hit a pair of 3-point shots giving him six points for the game on senior night.

Nicks and Brandt both chipped in five points followed by three points from Heidbrink to round out the Dutchmen scoring against Pacific.

Three nights earlier, Rehmert’s Dutchmen took on New Haven’s Shamrocks last Tuesday night.

Taking the early lead last Tuesday, Owensville could not hold on to it before falling 60-51 to the visiting Shamrocks.

Trailing 13-10 after one quarter, Decker paced the Dutchmen with six first-quarter points.

Heidbrink hit a rare 3-point shot to go along with a Gray free throw rounding out OHS’ first-quarter scoring.

Doubling their point total in the second quarter, Owensville saw New Haven do the same resulting in them trailing the Shamrocks 26-20 at halftime.

Daxton Mehrhoff, Decker, Gray, Garner and Nicks each had two points in the second quarter for Owensville.

Decker led the Dutchmen with eight first-half points.

Edged 16-13 in the third quarter, Rehmert’s Dutchmen faced a nine-point deficit going into the fourth quarter, 42-33.
