Dutchmen slam Salem snapping 3-game skid

Thus far this spring, OHS Field has been very kind to Steven Kemp’s Owensville Dutchmen baseball team.

Welcoming Salem’s Tigers Monday night to the friendly confines of OHS Field, the orange and black looked to snap a three-game losing streak dropping road games last week against Rolla, Mexico and Southern Boone.

Sending 17 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, Owensville scored 14 runs on seven hits, four walks, three errors and a hit batter.

Adding five runs in the bottom of the second inning, Kemp’s Dutchmen got back on the winning track with a 19-1 victory over the visiting Tigers in three innings.

Of the seven aforementioned hits in the bottom of the first inning, two of them were grand slam home runs off the bats of Landon Kramme and Chris Allen.

Adding a single and a two-RBI double, Allen finished a triple shy of the cycle racking up three hits and six RBIs.

Elias Medlock also had a multi-hit game with two in addition to three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Jansen Loeb also scored three runs while the Dutchmen quintet of Zaiden Gates, Jaden Gerlemann, Landon Kramme, Tucker Sassmann and Adam Wilson each scored twice.

Logan Bailey and Bryce Kramme each also crossed the plate once for the Dutchmen during their 19-1 victory.

Needing just 65 pitches, Chase Weirich earned the complete-game win allowing an unearned run on two hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts.

During junior-varsity action between the Dutchmen and Tigers, Owensville scored three times in all three innings of their 9-2 victory.

Dillon Schulte, Leyton Homeyer, Gabe Medlock and Henry Womack each had a base hit for the JV Dutchmen.

Medlock and George Vandegriffe each drove in a pair of runs while Homeyer and Sassmann each scored twice.

Also scoring a run for the JV Dutchmen were Grant Huebler, Colton Echols, Vandegriffe, Bryce Kramme and Womack.

Kramme got the win in relief throwing two and two-thirds innings of hitless baseball allowing an unearned run and two walks to go with six strikeouts.

Saturday in doubleheader action at Southern Boone High School in Ashland, Kemp’s varsity Dutchmen fell 9-0 to Mexico before dropping a 7-4 decision to the host Eagles.

Loeb and Elias Medlock both had hits for Owensville against the Bulldogs while Gates and Weirich each drew a walk.

Matt Eckelkamp took the loss allowing nine runs on eight hits and four walks.

Tied at 1-1 after an inning against the Eagles, OHS surrendered six unanswered runs before a sixth-inning rally fell just short.

Gates paced the Dutchmen against Southern Boone with three hits, two runs scored and a RBI.

Allen also had two hits and a RBI.

Gabe Medlock and Liam Rasmussen also scored for the orange and black against Southern Boone.

Wilson took the loss allowing four runs on six hits and a walk to go with one strikeout.

Last Tuesday in an 18-3 loss at Rolla in three innings, Landon Kramme had two hits, a run scored and a RBI leading the Dutchmen against the Bulldogs.

Weirich also had a two-RBI triple to help account for Owensville’s remaining runs.

Gerlemann also had a hit and a run scored in Rolla.

Falling 7-1 in JV action at Rolla, Sassmann scored the lone run for the Dutchmen after drawing a walk.

Other JV action last Thursday at OHS Field saw Owensville fall 13-3 against Blair Oaks.

Homeyer, Sassmann and Westin Kramme each had a pair of hits against the JV Falcons.

Pitching three and two-thirds innings, Homeyer took the loss allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits to go with seven strikeouts.

Weather and field conditions permitting, OHS is scheduled to return to action today (Wednesday) host St. James in FRC action at OHS Field with a 4:30 p.m., first pitch.
