Shut out 52-0 last Friday by Sullivan, Nathan Cabot’s Owensville Dutchmen football team welcomed St. Clair’s Bulldogs to Dutchmen Field for a week-nine showdown Friday night.

Grabbing an early 6-0 lead on a Brendan Decker to Derek Brandt 18-yard touchdown pass, Owensville had that lead for all of nearly five minutes before St. Clair scored the next 52 points going on to clinch an outright Four Rivers Conference (FRC) championship in football following their 52-6 win Friday over the host Dutchmen.

“They’re a great team and they deserved to win tonight,” Cabot said. “I thought we did some things better this week than we did last week. We just have to find a way to score more points.”

Held to 24 yards rushing by a stingy St. Clair defense, Owensville was led by freshman Bryce Payne running for 12 yards on his lone carry of the game in the fourth quarter.

In the air, Decker was 13-21 passing for 170 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

In his final game at Dutchmen Field, senior Cason Gray led OHS receivers catching four balls for 77 yards. Brandt also had four receptions for 49 yards and Owensville’s lone touchdown.

Senior Michael Miles recorded a sack against St. Clair on senior night while junior Garret West also recorded a sack for the Dutchmen defense.

Of the 72 total tackles registered by OHS, junior TC Fisher had the most with 12 total stops with seven of them being assists.

Brandt nearly joined him in double digits with nine total tackles.

Seniors recording at least one tackle in their final home football game at Dutchmen Field included Jahvontae Gates (4), Cason Gray (2), Cody Linders (4), Miles (3) and Seth Scheidegger (7).

Opening MSHSAA Class 3, District 2 action on the road in Sullivan Friday night, Owensville will have a chance to avenge their 52-0 loss to the Eagles back on Friday, Oct. 18.
