Two more opportunities for Owensville High School student-athletes became open to continue their athletic endeavors after the Monday, Dec. 2 meeting of the East Central College (ECC) Board of Trustees.
During that meeting, a recommendation by the ECC adminstraion to restart men’s baseball and add women’s soccer was voted on and approved.
“I believe the addtion of these sports will enable us to serve a wider population of students and help meet our strategic goals,” said Dr. Jon Bauer, ECC President.
Women’s soccer will start next fall with baseball returning in the spring of 2022.
Once Dutchmen head baseball coach Tyler Ahring saw this information, he immediately let his players know about it.
“When I saw Coach (Pete) Jett post that article on Facebook, I immediately screen shotted in and sent it to me junior and senior baseball players this year,” Ahring said. “This is something I’ve already talked to my upperclassmen players about as a possibility. As a coach, I just want to do the best I can to help kids interested in playing college baseball to find an opportunity that works for them.”
Overall, ECC adding these sports should benefit the entire area and Four Rivers Conference.
