Edwin Drewel, 91, Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020.
He was born Nov. 5, 1928, to Paul and Eva (Lorts) Drewel, in Owensville.
He was united in marriage to Janeice Ridenhour in 1956. He was later united in marriage to Carol Cox Jones in 1963.
Edwin was a 1947 graduate of Belle High School. Following graduation, he worked for Harbison/Walker Refractories. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he was employed as a buyer at Gibson Discount stores in Jefferson City, Columbia, Marshalltown, Iowa, and Decatur, Ill. He was later employed as buyer/manager of House of Bargains in Jefferson City and then the Department of Corrections for 16 years prior to his retirement in 1994. Edwin and wife, Carol, taught ballroom dancing classes at the YMCA and the Capital Ritz Ballroom, where they founded the “Let’s Dance” club. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Eva; sisters, Wilma Purviance, Doris Woolley, Dorothy Gibson and Shirley Buemmei; half-sister, Bea Hertweck; half-brothers, Johnny Licklider and Rex Drewel; and two grandsons.
He is survived by wife, Carol; sons, Phillip Jones and wife Donna, Michael Jones and wife Pat and Marty Drewel and wife Debi; brother: Don Drewel and wife Joan; and nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held Tuesday, June 30, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in Jefferson City. Inurnment followed at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. Memorial contributions suggested to the Central Missouri Honor Flight.
