Eight more dead from COVID-19 in county

Another record number of deaths (8) from COVID-19 was reported in Franklin County this week breaking last week’s record of five.

Expect this trend to continue as confirmed cases in long-term care facilities again skyrocketed. Seven days ago, there were 37 cases in such facilities. The latest numbers record 92 cases. The elderly are the most susceptible to death from the virus.

Franklin County ranks 36th in per capita deaths in Missouri with 42 per 100,000. Gasconade County leads the state with 163 deaths per 100,000.

Franklin County ranks 9th in state jurisdictions (counties and independent cities) for new cases this week. 310 new cases were reported.

Hospitalizations are down in the county. The week began with 20 in local hospitals and the latest numbers report only nine hospitalizations.

Three new positive cases were reported in the Gerald area. Added to the already reported but not recovered case, this leaves four active cases in the Gerald zip code. Last week there were six active cases. These active cases include three women ages 45, 63 and 78 along with an 83-year-old man.
