Eight R-2 harriers leave New Haven with medals

NEW HAVEN — Owensville Middle School (OMS) and Owensville High School (OHS) cross country runners coached by Matt Candrl began their respective seasons Saturday morning at the New Haven Invitational held inside New Haven City Park.

Middle school racing action saw a pair of orange and black harriers earn medals for their top-10 finishes.

OMS’ Dutchmen placed second to Vienna (43) with 59 points in the team standings.

Robbie Rodriguez led the Dutchmen with a sixth-place time of 13:42.73 while Grayson Lairmore also joined him in the medals with an eighth-place time of 13:56.88.

Also helping OMS’ Dutchmen to second place as a team were Max Altemeyer (14th, 14:55.02), Garrett Ringeisen (22nd, 15:26.37), Liam Kramme (23rd, 15:28.77), Ricky Ringeisen (31st, 16:43.85), Christopher Wehmeyer (34th, 17:01.77), Dylan Dietrich (42nd, 17:57.16), Seth Mitcham (44th, 18:04.11), Braden Kemp (48th, 18:32.38) and Michael Anderson (49th, 18:37.48).

Kennedy Reams led OMS’ contingency of Dutchgirl harriers with a 14th-place time of 16:28.90 followed by Jolie Vandegriffe in 21st with a time of 17:20.76.

Addi Meyer (46th, 20:55.62) and Allyson Smith (52nd, 23:11.51) rounded out OMS’ roster of orange and black runners at New Haven.

Moving into high school racing, Owensville’s JV Dutchmen placed third as a team with 88 points behind Hermann (29) and St. Dominic (58).

Tristan Strothkamp led the JV Dutchmen with a fifth-place time of 21:30.09 followed in the medals by Westin Kramme’s 13th-place time of 22:14.35.

Rounding out Owensville’s contingency of JV Dutchmen harriers were Bryce Kramme (23rd, 22:39.85), Kien Bayless (39th, 24:35.46), Daimeyn Rogers (50th, 27:52.43), Ethan Blankenship (52nd, 28:49.89) and Christian Steele (53rd, 28:50.90).

Leola Hamann led Owensville’s JV Dutchgirls with a 29th-place time of 29:20.60 at New Haven followed by the trio of Annalise Dryer (33rd, 30:07.91), Morgen Schmidt (38th, 30:43.89) and Jayden Hubbard (46th, 33:16.29).

Fresh off his All-State performance as a freshman last fall, Dutchmen sophomore Zach Holtmeyer picked up the lone medal for OHS’ varsity boys with a sixth-place time of 18:19.13.

Runners also helping Owensville placed sixth as a team with 152 points included Ty Price (30th, 20:02.80), Christopher Reyes (34th, 20:20.14), Kyle Bollman (37th, 20:46.79) and Xavier Bayless (54th, 22:37.72).

Starting her senior year off with a bang, Dutchgirl Ilene Limberg won the varsity girls race with a time of 20:46.54 while two of her teammates joined her in the top 15 and medal position.

Fellow senior Abbie Gibson placed sixth in 22:43.75 while junior Hannah Gehlert posted an eighth-place time of 23:05.31.

Also helping Owensville place fourth as a team with 102 points behind Union (48), Fatima (67) and St. Dominic (90) were Elaina Lebish (50th, 29:22.32) and Arianna Baguio (51st, 29:43.28).

OHS harriers will run in Columbia this Saturday while their OMS counterparts will compete in Linn marking the midway point of the month of September.
