Just over 24 hours removed from playing 18 holes at Birch Creek Golf Course in Union during the Union Tournament, Cullen VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchmen golfers made the short trek south on Highway 19 last Tuesday to compete in the Cuba Lakes Classic against six other teams at Cuba Lakes Golf Course.
Seeing all five OHS golfers shoot nine-hole rounds in the 40s, Crew Epstein showed the way for the orange and black with a round of 41 putting him in a three-way tie for second place with Fatima’s Nick Howe and Licking’s Roston Stockard.
Koen Brooks was next for the Dutchmen carding a round of 44 tying him for 10th place with Fatima’s Xavier Stuecken and the Belle Tiger duo of Avery Craigmiles and Kelhen Struemph.
Noah Caldwell and Keigan Glaser tied for 14th place shooting rounds of 45.
Brady Watson rounded out the Dutchmen contingency on golfers at Cuba with a round of 47 good for 18th place overall.
Fatima’s Evan Otto was the meet medalist with a low nine-hole round of 39.
Shooting a team score of 177 good for third place, Owensville placed behind Fatima (166) and Belle (175).
They were ahead of Cuba (189), Steelville (201), Licking (203) and Newburg (210).
OHS will return to action today (Wednesday) in the Farmington Tournament.
