Erma Lee Lay, 86, Owensville, died Friday, March 1, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Washington.

She was born June 3, 1932, to Alton and Tillie (Wiese) Hibler, in Owensville.

She was united in marriage to Vernon Melvin Lay, June 3, 1950, at Owensville.

Erma was a member of St. Peter’s Church, St. Peter’s Dorcas Circle and St. Peter’s Quilters. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time outdoors, and casino trips. She owned and operated L&M Cafe and then worked many years as a cook at Gasconade Country R-2 School District.

She was preceded in death by parents, Alton and Tillie; husband, Vernon; son, Larry Lay; brothers, Melvin and Stanwood Hibler; and sisters, Olene Idel and Helen Hibler.

She is survived by Annie Kline and husband Jerry of Sullivan; brother, Harold Hibler and wife Lucille of Owensville; sister, Velma Jean Creek of Owensville; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 6, at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home 9-11 a.m. Funeral services will follow with Rev. Stephanie DeLong officiating. Burial will be at Countryside Memorial Gardens, Owensville.
