With the month of July in the history books, the beginning of August signals time for the beginning of the fall sports season in the state of Missouri.
Here in our neck of the woods, Matt Candrl’s Owensville Dutchmen and Dutchgirl cross country teams have the honor of being the first Owensville High School team to kick off practice.
Meeting at Buschmann Park all five days next week, practice will begin at 7:30 a.m., and last until approximately 9 a.m.
Candrl will be joined by assistant coaches David Koppelmann and Tyler Ahring.
Koppelmann will help Candrl with the high school squad while Ahring will be coaching the middle school cross country teams.
OMS and OHS cross country will open their season over Labor Day weekend on Saturday, Sept. 5 in New Haven.
Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball, Dutchmen football and Dutchgirl softball will all begin their first practice of the fall Monday at 3:30 p.m.
Jamie Ridenhour’s Dutchgirl volleyball squads will hold tryouts on Aug. 10-12 from 3:30 until 6 p.m., in the OHS main gym. Ridenhour will be assisted by junior varsity coach Misti Rutledge and freshman coach Taylor Payne.
OHS volleyball will open their season on Monday, Aug. 31 hosting Linn’s Lady Wildcats.
Hannah (Wehar) Koppelmann’s Dutchgirl softball team will also begin their first practice of the fall Monday afternoon from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m., on the new OHS softball/baseball field on campus.
Koppelmann will be assisted by Shane Hunt who makes the move to the diamond after spending last fall as an assistant football coach.
Dutchgirl softball will begin their season on Friday, Aug. 28 in the Peoples Bank Back to School Softball Classic hosted by Sullivan High School.
Nathan Cabot’s Owensville Dutchmen football team will also start their first practice of the fall Monday afternoon and the rest of the week from 3:30 p.m., until 5:30 p.m.
Serving as assistants for Cabot’s gridiron Dutchmen include Casey Fisher, Dustin Howard, Steven Kemp, Scott Lewis and Zach Bollmann.
Owensville Dutchmen football will open their season on the road in Washington County on Friday, Aug. 28 against Potosi’s Trojans with a 7 p.m., kickoff.
