With January now in the history books, February generally means the home stretch of high school basketball and wrestling seasons throughout the state of Missouri.
It also means the potential for Mother Nature to insert her two cents into the equation.
She is doing exactly that with Winter Storm ‘Landon’ that is hitting the area today (Wednesday) and tomorrow.
If forecasts prove to be correct, basketball and wrestling schedules could be altered this week.
This would include tomorrow’s (Thursday) freshman and junior varsity tripleheader at Owensville High School against Hermann’s Bearcats and Lady Bearcats.
Also in jeopardy tomorrow is a road wrestling triangular meet in Callaway County between South Callaway, Fatima and Owensville.
This would be a boys and girls meet and the final regular-season action for both the Dutchmen and Dutchgirls.
Winter Storm ‘Landon’ could also impact Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) girls wrestling district tournaments throughout the state.
As of press time, Dustin Howard’s Dutchgirls are scheduled to compete beginning Friday in the MSHSAA Class 1, District 2 Tournament at North Point High School in Wentzville.
Schools scheduled to make the trip to Wentzville as of press time include Battle (Columbia), Blair Oaks, Boonville, Brookfield, California, Capital City (Jefferson City), Centralia, Cole Camp, Eldon, Fatima, Francis Howell, Francis Howell Central, Francis Howell North, Fort Zumwalt East, Fort Zumwalt North, Fort Zumwalt South, Fort Zumwalt West, Fulton, Hannibal, Hickman (Columbia), Holt (Wentzville), Jefferson City, Kirksville, Liberty (Wentzville), Lutheran St. Charles, Macon, Marceline, Marshall, Mexico, Moberly, North Point (Wentzville), Orchard Farm, Osage, Owensville, Palmyra, Rock Bridge (Columbia), Smith-Cotton (Sedalia), South Callaway, Southern Boone, St. Charles, St. Charles West, St. Francis Borgia, Timberland (Wentzville), Tipton, Troy Buchanan, Versailles, Warrenton, Washington, Winfield and Wright City.
Wrestling on Friday is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., in Wentzville with first-round matches in 13 weight classes.
Saturday wrestling in Wentzville is currently slated to begin at 9 a.m.
This could all change depending upon Winter Storm ‘Landon’.
