Firemen receive recognition

Posted

The Gerald-Rosebud Fire Department held their annual awards dinner last Saturday evening, Jan. 25, at the American Legion Hall in Rosebud. Retired firemen, spouses, past board members and chiefs all joined current members and board members at the event. After a meal, Fire Chief Warren Weiss made his way to the front of the hall to begin announcing awards. He was met there by his department who surprised him by giving him the first award of the evening. The department wanted to show their appreciation to the chief for his hard work in rebuilding their ranks. An emotional Weiss (top, left) accepted their warm words of gratitude and a plaque.

Three department members were singled out for awards for their service in 2019.

Taylor Smith, a relatively new member,  was singled out as the Fireball of the Year for bringing enthusiasm and energy to the ranks.

Jack Clark was recognized as the Top Responder for 2019. Weiss noted that Clark responded to more than 50 percent of the calls received by the department.

Nick Via was honored as Firefighter of the Year. Weiss stated this award goes to a member who spends extraordinary amounts of time furthering the department. Via works on public relations, photographing scenes, and projects within the buildings as well as answering calls.
