Causing nightmares for opposing Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) coaches and players alike, former Owensville Dutchgirl basketball player Hailey Diestelkamp continues to add to her growing list of accomplishments in a Drury University (DU) Lady Panther uniform.
Averaging 18 points and eight rebounds in two wins last week over the University of Central Missouri (UCM) and Northern Michigan, Diestelkamp was named the GLVC Player of the Week in Women’s basketball for the fifth time in her illustrious hoops career at DU in Springfield.
Six games into the season, Diestelkamp simply needs 95 more points to pass Amanda Newton’s (2002-06) mark of 1,815 career points and become Drury University’s all-time leading scorer.
Currently averaging around 15 points a game, Diestelkamp is on pace to become Drury’s all-time leading scorer on or around Thursday, Jan. 9 when the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) Lady Tritons make the trek across Missouri on Interstate 44 to Springfield to take on the Lady Panthers in a GLVC showdown.
That game will also pit Hailey Diestelkamp against her younger sister and UMSL freshman Breanna Diestelkamp.
It would be a safe bet that the O’Reilly Family Event Center will have an Owensville section on that day.
