Eyeing another high team finish, Matt Candrl’s Owensville High School Dutchgirl cross country team looked to leave Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) in Joplin with more medals and perhaps a piece of team hardware.
Placing third out of 22 scoring teams with 166 points behind Herculaneum (101) and Regent Preparatory School (120), Owensville was led by senior Ilene Limberg with a third-place time of 19:28.96.
Limberg was one of only seven runners in the field to break the 20-minute barrier.
Also earning medals for the Dutchgirls with their top-25 finishes were Abbie Gibson (17th, 20:51.01), Hannah Gehlert (18th, 20:51.54) and Brynn Wright (22nd, 20:58.75).
Also helping the Dutchgirls to their third-place team finish was Arianna Baguio (147th, 26:45.26).
Drake Dietrich led the varsity Dutchmen with a 59th-place time of 18:33.03 followed closely in 60th place by Cristopher Reyes with a time of 18:37.14.
Owensville placed 14th as a team with 345 points out of 25 scoring teams.
Additional varsity Dutchmen on the course in Joplin included Ty Price (75th, 18:56.45), Westin Kramme (87th, 19:04.76), Kyle Bollman (112th, 19:44.94), Tristan Strothkamp (156th, 20:56.55) and Xavier Bayless (169th, 21:31.70).
Bryce Kramme led Owensville’s JV Dutchmen at Joplin placing 108th in a time of 12:48.06.
Also helping OHS’ JV Dutchmen place 20th as a team were Daimeyn Rogers (156th, 13:30.71), Christian Steele (172nd, 13:54.84), Nick Hinson (178th, 13:59.21), Kien Bayless (193rd, 14:12.50) and Ethan Blankenship (260th, 17:07.06).
Competing in the JV girls race for Owensville were Annalise Dryer (93rd, 16:54.12) and Morgen Schmidt (101st, 17:18.81).
After having the weekend off, OMS Cross Country will return to action tomorrow (Thursday) at the Belle Invitational being ran at Belle City Park before then competing on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in the St. James Invitational at Maramec Spring Park.
OHS harriers will trek west of Missouri for the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence, Kan., this weekend.
