Most mornings, Presiding Commissioner Tim Brinker releases a graph showing COVID-19 statistics for Franklin County. Over the weekend, the information in these charts has changed. The charts no longer contain information about the total number of deaths in the county. They also do not contain the location of those who have recovered from the virus. The numbers released via the charts do not match the numbers released by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and never have.

Last Wednesday, April 22, Brinker’s released chart noted there had been 19 deaths in Franklin County and 105 total cases, with 34 of those having recovered. That would leave 52 active cases according.

In the chart released Tuesday, April 28, Brinker reported 49 active cases of COVID-19, with 40 of those being treated in skilled nursing facilities. Nine people, according to the chart, were recovering at home, reportedly practicing self-isolation.

Monday, April 27, Brinker reported, “There have been two new positive cases for Franklin County reported over the past two days.”

On Tuesday, April 28, Brinker wrote, “Franklin County has 49 Confirmed Active COVID-19 cases, and for the first time ever, there are more confirmed recovered cases (51) than active cases here in Franklin County. He also noted the death of a 74-year-old female in Villa Ridge, which brought the death toll to 12.

According to DHSS statistics, last Wednesday, April 22, Missouri had 6,137 confirmed cases and 208 deaths. Of those, there were five deaths reported in the county and 102 reported total cases.

By Tuesday, April 28, that agency reported 7,303 total cases with 314 deaths statewide. Their totals for Franklin County were six deaths and 110 total cases.

County offices will reopen for business Monday morning. Other businesses will also open for business while adhering to strict guidelines on how many people can be in a building and how far apart they must stay.

After a false start on reopening last week, the county is now prepared to follow state guidelines.
