Franklin Edward Thurmond, 82, Owensville, formerly of Bland, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Frene Valley Nursing Facility of Owensville.

He was born Dec. 9, 1936, to Benjamin and Ada (Dearing) Thurmond, in Union.

He was first united in marriage to Joan Burton. He was later united in marriage to Donna Loyd in Union.

Franklin was a self-employed logger and truck driver for many years. He owned a sawmill and made cedar lawn furniture.

He was preceded in death by parents, Benjamin and Ada; daughter, Lisa Thurmond; sister, Helen Thurmond Haight; daughter-in-law, Mary Thurmond; sons-in-law, Joe McKinnon and David Flagg Sr.; brother-in-law, Richard Haight; and first wife, Joan.

He is survived by wife, Donna; sons, Paul Thurmond and wife Patty of Bland, Rodger Thurmond of Pryor, Okla., Benny Joe Thurmond and wife Peggy, Sammy Thurmond and Gary Leroy Thurmond and wife Michelle, all of St. Clair, and Marvin Thurmond and wife Cindy of Des Moines, Iowa; daughters, Rosie McKinnon of St. Clair, Diane Flagg of St. James and Denice Duffer and husband John of Beaufort; brother, Gary Thurmond and wife Barbara of The Villages, Fla.; and 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation was held Saturday, March 23, at the Beaufort Lions Club building. Memorial contributions suggested to the family.
