Taking care of business.

That was the goal Tuesday night for Ryan Flanagan’s Owensville Dutchgirl basketball team last Tuesday night on the road against Sullivan’s Lady Eagles.

Already clinching at least a share of their first Four Rivers Conference (FRC) title in girls basketball since 2016 with their homecoming win over New Haven, Flanagan’s Dutchgirls went for the outright title in Franklin County.

Leading 13-8 after one quarter, Owensville outscored the Lady Eagles 21-8 in the second quarter giving them a 34-16 halftime lead.

Outscoring Sullivan 39-18 in the second half, OHS clinched an outright FRC title following a 73-34 victory on the road.

“We knew we had to come out and take care of business,” Flanagan said. “We had at least a share of the (Four Rivers) conference title and we wanted to finish the job making it ours outright.”

Anna Finley led five Dutchgirls in double figures with 19 points. She also flirted with a triple double adding six rebounds and six assists.

Camryn Caldwell baked up 13 points to join Finley in double digits with 10 of those coming in the second quarter.

Emma Daniels fired in 12 points with seven of those coming in the second half. She also added three steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Kyla Hendrix added 11 points seven rebounds, four steals and three assists for Flanagan’s Dutchgirls.

Rounding out the quintet of double-digit scorers for the Dutchgirls was Keira Hendrix with 10 points.

She also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

“Anytime we can have five girls score in double figures, we’re a dangerous team to defend,” Flanagan said. “It is nice to have multiple girls that can score the basketball so that teams cannot key on one player.”

Recognized prior to the game for reaching 1,000 career points, Abby Peterson led Sullivan with 14 points. Dakayla McClain also reached double figures for the Lady Eagles with 10 points.

Battling their way to a 13-8 lead after one quarter, Owensville was led in scoring Kyla Hendrix with five points followed by four from Finley.

More than doubling their point total in the second quarter, OHS put 21 on the scoreboard while holding Sullivan to eight more.

Helping the Dutchgirls to a 34-16 halftime lead, Caldwell hit three 3-pointers helping her net 10 second-quarter points.

Emma Daniels, Ali Daniels and Finley each added three second-quarter points.

Duplicating their second-quarter offensive output with 21 third-quarter points, Owensville held Sullivan to 10 points to open the second half giving them a 55-26 lead after three quarters.

Finley (7), Kyla Hendrix (6) and Emma Daniels (5) were the top third-quarter scorers for the Dutchgirls.

Keira Hendrix scored 10 of Owensville’s 18 fourth-quarter points capping the victory for OHS.

Dutchgirls also on the bench for the conference-clinching game included Addison Wright, Kiana Guerrero, Anya Binkhoelter, Audrey Quilacio, Cameron Nowack and Grace Abell.

OHS opened Class 4, District 3 tournament semifinal action last night (Tuesday) back in Sullivan against Salem’s Lady Tigers.
