Freshmen volleyball Dutchgirls Washington

A 2-0 start.

That is what Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball teams coached by Alexis Decker, Misti Rutledge and Jamie Ridenhour were after last Wednesday night with Washington’s Lady Blue Jays in town for a rare midweek showdown.

Side-by-side action started the night with the freshman and junior varsity matches taking place at the same time.

Behind the serving of Clara Julius and Addison Scheer, Decker’s freshman Dutchgirls swept Washington in two sets 25-21 and 26-24.

Rutledge’s JV Dutchgirls nearly forced a third set before dropping their match to Washington 25-11 and 25-20.

Callie Koelling led the JV Dutchgirls with three kills six service points.

Dropping the first two sets in varsity action, Ridenhour’s varsity Dutchgirls won the third set before seeing Washington take the fourth set and the match by scores of 25-12, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-9.

Josie Gerlemann led the varsity Dutchgirls with 12 kills while Drew Copeland served up a team-high two aces.

Gerlemann also had a team-high three blocks to go along with two from Madison Lewis.

Molly Wnuk and Gerlemann each had 13 digs while Kylie Kitchen dished out 16 assists.
