Owensville High School softball and football fans need not look any further than Highway 185 for their sports fix over the upcoming weekend.

That is because Hannah (Wehar) Koppelmann’s Dutchgirl softball team will be competing in the Peoples Bank Back to School Softball Classic hosted by Sullivan High School at the Campbell-Chapman Sports Complex located near Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.

Owensville will play three games on Friday followed by two more on Saturday down in Eagle country.

Placed in Pool D along with De Soto, Osage and Poplar Bluff, OHS will start pool softball action Friday morning against the Lady Mules (Poplar Bluff) at 10:15 a.m., followed immediately by a high noon showdown with De Soto’s Lady Dragons.

Koppelmann’s Dutchgirls will conclude pool play facing Osage’s Lady Indians at approximately 3:30 p.m. Their placement in pool play will determine which bracket they will play in Saturday.

Also among the 15-team field in Sullivan are Pool A teams Bolivar, Capital City, Hillsboro and Pacific.

Pool B teams include Eldon, , Sullivan and Windsor.

Pool C teams rounding out the tournament field include Farmington, Linn, Logan-Rogersville and Northwest (Cedar Hill).

Friday evening south of Sullivan along Highway 185, Nathan Cabot’s Owensville Dutchmen football team will take on Potosi’s Trojans in Washington County to open the 2020 high school football season.

They will be looking to avenge a 44-28 season-opening loss to the Trojans from last fall at Dutchmen Field.
