Diane Meyer, chief of the Gerald Area Ambulance District (GAAD), announced Friday, Aug. 7, that the Franklin County Commission approved her request for a $75,203.68 grant. The request was made June 26.
The $75,000 will come from the $12,197,404 the county received in CARES Act funding.
Meyer said in her request that the funds are needed for equipment to use in protecting the public and her department during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The requested funds can only be used to reimburse GAAD. The district must purchase the equipment and then submit the invoices to the commission.
Meyer called the approval of her request, “Christmas in August.”
Planned purchases include:
• Three King video laryngscopes
• Lucas stair chair
• Ultra-violet equipment installed in rigs
• Two portable ultra-violet units for headquarters rooms
• Three vents with bi-pap and AED for headquarters
Meyer says the district is very thankful for the help in purchasing the needed equipment. Once the purchases are made, invoices will be submitted to the county for reimbursement.
After a review of the Franklin County Commission minutes, it is unclear when the decision was made to award the funds.
