George Washington Tainter, 85, Hermann, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 24, 1937, to Edison G. and Mary (Piel) Tainter in St. Louis.

He was united in marriage to Carrie Bell, April 14, 1972, in Webster Groves.

George owned and operated Tainter Explosives from 1973 until his retirement. He enjoyed visiting with friends and making people laugh, even passing away wearing his favorite tee shirt that says, “I’m not a gynecologist but I’ll take a look!” He enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, working with his cows and especially enjoyed having a beer with his friends at the bar.

He was preceded in death by parents Edison and Mary; son George W. Tainter; brothers Bob, Dick and Allan Tainter; sisters Audrey Speros and Irene O’Gorman; and sister-in-law Becky Devine.

He is survived by wife Carrie; children Greg Tainter of Eureka, Jennifer Gross and husband Jerod and Hunt Tainter and wife Karri all of Owensville; brothers-in-law Rick Bell and wife Donna of St. Louis and Dan Devine of Eureka; sisters-in-law Sally Browne and Phoebe Harke and husband Dave all of St. Louis; grandchildren Logan, Chase, Molli, and Kooper Gross, Cole Davenport, and Brooke and Reagan Tainter; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 28, from 4–6 p.m., at Seventh Street Events.
