Gerald City Hall has been closed indefinitely due to COVID-19 concerns. An alderman told the Republican that both the front part of City Hall and the police department have been closed and several employees are exhibiting symptoms compatible with COVID-19.
The Franklin County sheriffs department will provide a police presence in the city of Gerald until officers are allowed to come back to work.
Employees were scheduling tests on Thursday to determine whether they were positive with the virus. Results from those test could take 3 to 4 days after the test have been administered.
City Hall and patrol vehicles are being decontaminated as a precaution.
More details will be provided if they become available.
